DESCRIPTION

The creator of the Barbie doll, Ruth Handler, was the strong-willed creative force behind what became the most revolutionary doll in modern times. This type of doll was considered a “flight of fancy;” ultimately Barbie became a phenomenon. Unknown to most people is that due to Ruth Handler having a mastectomy, she developed the first most naturally shaped breast prosthesis in the United States. Her non-profit company helped millions of women across the country and internationally as well. From an unorthodox upbringing to professional success and personal tragedies, she was one of many inspirational women to emerge from the 20th century.
