DESCRIPTION

Beginning with the synagogue at Dura-Europos, we follow the evolution of portrayals of Moses both as a single figure and in stories. Among the major artists who portrayed Moses are Michelangelo, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Tintoretto, and Claus Sluter. Scenes include the finding of the baby Moses; Moses striking the rock; Moses and the brazen serpent; the Gathering of Manna; Crossing the Red Sea; the Burning Bush; the Golden Calf; Defending the Daughters of Jethro; Moses and Aaron before Jethro. Find out why Moses was portrayed sometimes with horns.
